Its predecessor, the Mustang II (1974-1978), was a smaller and more efficient package than previous 'Stangs and came along just in time for the energy crisis of 1973/1974. Although the Mustang II sold well, by the end of the '70's Ford fans and enthusiasts in general were ready for more performance.
